When his pleas for help fall on deaf ears, Geb must assault the city guard to leave in the children’s pursuit, putting his newfound freedom at risk to protect the ones he loves. Through steel and blood, Geb recuses the orphans he can, but not before learning the name and whereabouts of the slave ringleader responsible for their capture.
Returning to Knaves with the children, Geb must answer for his crimes in the King’s court. There, he’s offered a chance for pardon, finding himself a pawn in yet another ambitious game. Only this time, he must make a choice: be subservient once more and follow orders to prevent war between two kingdoms, or risk everything for revenge on a monster bent on enslaving children.
